This black and white negative depicts a view from the east of Shaker Rd. of the Church Family buildings of Canterbury Shaker Village. From left to right: Infirmary, Creamery, North Shop, Enfield House, Dwelling House. All the buildings are sheathed in clapboard. The foreground shows a white wooden fence, with handrail, in deep shade of maple trees. The fence rails are set between two granite posts. The Infirmary shows shrubs growing in front of its south entry. Its two rows of windows are 12/8 double-hung. The south facade of the Creamery shows two dormers on the roof; each dorner has two side-by-side windows. There are three rows of double-hung windows on the Creamery's west and south facades. There is a utility pole in front of the Creamery. To the right of the Creamery is a partial view of the North Shop. To the right of the North Shop is Enfield House. There is a light fixture on its northwest corner. There are three chimneys atop the roof. Behind the roof is the top of the water tower. The west facade of the building shows a porch and three rows of windows over the porch roof. Its south facade shows two gabled porticos and a row of windows. To the right of Enfield House is the Dwelling House in the distance. From its roof are a row of dormers, three chimneys and a belfry. |
